On the morning of April 4,at the invitation of XPU, Prof. Desmond Doran delivered an academic lecture titledwith “Lean tools for improving operations”for the teachers and students of the School of Management.

In the report, Prof. Doran first gave a brief introduction to the University of Kent, followed by enumerating some well-known design cases in the form of pictures, eliciting the concepts of“lean”and encouraging teachers and students to observe phenomenon and analyze problems from different perspectives. Then, in order to inspire everyone to think with lean thinking, he interpreted the TIMWOODS principles for achieving lean operations in detail, as well as the misunderstandings in lean production management should be avoided. In the end, Prof. Doran drove the discussion of misunderstandings and lean management in the right way of the case. The present students spoke actively and benefited a lot.

After the talk, both teachers and students had in-depth understandings of the use of lean tools for improving operations.
