On March 25th,the final of the 9th National Undergraduate Mathematics Competition,hosted by the Chinese Mathematical Society,was successfully held in Xi'an.Huang Zhenqiang, a student from Grade2014 majoring in Applied Physics from the School of Science of XPU,was awarded the third prize in the group of non-mathematics in the national finals. A breakthrough was achieved that XPU’s student won a national-level award in this competition.
The National Undergraduate Mathematics Competition is one of the largest and most influential math contests in China. This event was hosted by Xi'an Jiaotong University and divided into two groups: mathematics and non-mathematics. More than 110,000 college students from 29 divisions of the country signed up for this competition, including Peking University, Tsinghua University,University of Science and Technology of China, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Northwestern Polytechnical University.By the division of the preliminary selection, a total of 414 players competed forthe finals.
More than 800 students from XPU took part in the preliminary competition. Through the arduous organization and guidance of the teachers(Feng Jinqian, Li Ping, SuJin, and Yang Hai from the School of Science)and the efforts of competitors,XPU finally acquired gratifying results. Among them in the preliminary rounds of the Shaanxi Division, there were 36 first prizes, 54 second prizes and 90 third prizes in non-mathematical group,and 3 first prizes, 6 second prizes and 9 third prizes in mathematics group.Owing to his excellent performance in the preliminary round,Huang Zhenqiang was recommended by the Committee of Shaanxi Division to participate in the final and achieved excellent results.He was currently admitted as a graduate student of Xi'an Jiaotong University.
