On December 5, the Second “Seminar on Ecological Protection and High-quality Development of the Yellow River Basin (Shaanxi Section)”, sponsored by the School of Urban Planning and Municipal Engineering, was held at the Lintong Campus of XPU. Experts and scholars from Shaanxi Provincial Party School of CPC, Shaanxi Academy of Social Sciences, Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, CAS&MWR, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Northwest University, Xi’an University of Technology, Xi’an Polytechnic University, Yan’an Ecological Environment Bureau, Anhui Lenorm Environmental Protection Technology Co., Broadway Environmental Protection Group Co., as well as XPU’s President Gao Ling, Vice President Li Pengfei, Director of Publicity Department Wang Zhi, Deputy Director of President Office Zang Guoqiang, Deputy Director of Science and Technology Department Wang Zhigang, and over 50 representatives of teachers and students attended. The meeting was chaired by Li Pengfei, member of the school’s party committee, vice president, and director of the Yellow River Basin Ecological Protection and High-quality Development Research Center.
President Gao Ling said that the development history of the school is closely related to our country and higher education. The research on the ecological protection of the Yellow River Basin and the cultural heritage of the Yellow River has practical significance and future development value. XPU will actively integrate into the regional development of Shaanxi. At the same time, it is hoped that the participating experts will contribute their insights and jointly promote the overall development of XPU.
XPU gathers the advantages of programs and talents. On November 23, 2019, it took the lead to establish the first research institution for ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin in Shaanxi Province, “the Yellow River Basin Ecological Protection and High-Quality Development Research Center of Xi’an Polytechnic University”. Since the establishment of the Center, it has given full play to the comprehensive advantages of the university’s art-industry combination, organized and coordinated the strengths of multiple disciplines, conducted comprehensive research on issues related to the Yellow River Basin, and strived to make the center a first-class academic institution integrating water resources protection, cultural heritage and research, consultation, evaluation and talent training on high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin, serving the strategy of high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin in all aspects.
In 2020, the center carried out a series of investigations and research working to expand new ideas of cross-disciplinary research on the ecological protection of the Yellow River basin, and constantly explore cooperation paths. In July 2020, experts and students were organized to conduct water pollution investigation and research on Yanhe River and Qingjian River in Yan’an. The practical result Qingjian River Sediment Pollution Investigation and Evaluation of Social Practice Research Report was awarded as “Excellent Provincial Research Report in Shaanxi Province” and provincial advanced individual in “Going to the Countryside”. The project of Research on the Protection and Development of Rural Ecological Space in Shaanxi was approved as a key project of the Social Science Federation in 2020. The magazine Yellow River made a special report on the situation of the center.
At the seminar, the participating experts and scholars discussed intensively and jointly offered suggestions for ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. Li Huaien, a professor and doctoral supervisor of XUT, gave a detailed introduction on the value and spatial and temporal changes of river ecological base flow in water-scarce areas with the topic of Research on the value and spatial and temporal changes of river ecological base flow in water-scarce areas. Researcher Wang Jijun, a doctoral tutor from the Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, CAS&MWR, delivered a keynote speech on Soil Erosion Control and Sustainable Agricultural Development, and explained the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin from the perspective of controlling soil erosion and sustainable agricultural development. Researcher Tong Juan from the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences introduced the research process and results of urban sewage and sludge treatment. Professor Qu Jian, Dean of the School of Art and doctoral supervisor of NWU, deeply analyzed the main goals and tasks of ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping, combining the Yellow River landscape and its spirit in the art creation of New China. In addition, Professor Hu Weihua from the Shaanxi Provincial Party School of CPC delivered a speech on Establishing a Sound Ecological Economic System, Promoting Ecological Protection and High-quality Development in the Yellow River Basin. Mr. Liu Chunxiao, Chairman of Broadway Environmental Protection Technology Group Co., Ltd. delivered a speech on Practicing Water Pollution Prevention and Control in Shaanxi Section of the Yellow River Basin with the Spirit of Craftsman. Fu Jianfeng and Ran Shuqing respectively gave special reports on Industrialization and Application of Agricultural Soil Remediation Technology of “Rehabilitation while Increasing Production and Cooperation Among Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Shaanxi and Henan to Promote the High-quality Development of the Areas Along the Middle Reaches of the Yellow River.
