In order to further broaden college students’ horizons, enhance students' international competitiveness, leadership ability, innovation ability and scientific and technological innovation ability, and students' summer social practice, XPU organized excellent undergraduates and postgraduates to Nanyang University of Technology in Singapore and Hong Kong University of Technology for training and enterprise practice from July 22 to July 29, 2018. 91 students from various colleges participated in the training and exchange of visits.
Liu Xiaojie, Dean of the Graduate School, Shi Qi, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department, and Liu Tingting, Deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee, led 41 postgraduates and undergraduates to Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Intellectual Property College to participate in “XPU - Science and Technology Innovation Ability Training Project". Wei Zhe, deputy director of the State-owned Assets Management Office, Ling Xu, director of the Student Affairs Office of the School of Urban Planning and Municipal Engineering, and Hou Menglai, International Cooperation and Exchange Office, led 50 undergraduate students to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to participate in “XPU - Leadership and Innovation Capability Learning Practice Project." The team leaders participated in the training program and were responsible for the organization and management of the students during the training period.
The two training courses in Singapore and Hong Kong are informative and well designed. Students can quickly adapt to the English teaching environment and high-intensity learning tasks, actively participate in group discussions, interact with teachers, and achieve the effect of heuristic teaching. Students generally improve their enthusiasm, initiative and self-confidence in English learning. At the same time, heuristic and problem-based education and teaching methods make classroom interaction between teachers and students naturally flexible, timely, effective, and enable students to improve, focus and understand. The ability has been significantly improved, enabling students to have new endogenous feelings, new understandings and new inspirations for general learning and research, as well as higher education and universities.
Six team leaders went to Singapore and Hong Kong to inspect the operation of the project, and participated in the course training throughout the course. They deeply studied the concepts of teaching, teaching design and student services at high-level universities outside the country. The main gains of this training include：
1. The development of higher education in the world is changing with each passing day. The reform of education and teaching in China's universities is urgent and has a long way to go.
2. Abandoning the idea that "the scorpion can't be taught", and sticking to the spirit of "being a slap in the face" is the morality and philosophy that education and teaching reform should insist to on.
3. The internationalization of the vision and concept of the teaching staff and administrative staff is an important part of the internationalization of higher education;
4. Continue to organize and manage the training group for teachers and students, and promote the internationalization of higher education with “point and face” Connotation development. Regarding the detailed results of the training, the school will organize a special report meeting to communicate with teachers and students. At the same time, during the visit, the school established in-depth contacts with experts and scholars from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Intellectual Property Institute, Singapore University of Science and Technology, and issued a cooperation invitation. At present, Jack Cheng Yu-Chao, Principal Assistant Director of the Singapore Intellectual Property Institute, had been invited to attend the school lecture on October 12, 2018 and participated in the 2nd International Education Exhibition of XPU. Associate Professor Foo Kim Peng from the Singapore University of Science and Technology will also visit XPU at an appropriate time to conduct academic exchanges. At the same time, Dr Ma Wai-ming from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University had been in close contact and communication with Shaanxi University to develop bilingual education.
The visit to Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and Hong Kong Polytechnic University Visiting Program is a further advancement of XPU after the winter vacation for the first time in the form of international exchange scholarships to support outstanding students to study abroad. In the future, XPU will continue to fund outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate study abroad exchanges in the form of scholarships, further develop the positive role of cross-border education, deeply implement the spirit of the National Education University, and actively play the fifth function of higher education to enhance students' international vision and international competitiveness, comprehensive service of the core tasks of school personnel training.
