On the morning of September 16, 2020, XPU held an opening ceremony and formally welcomed its new undergraduates and postgraduates on Lifeng Stadium, Lintong Campus. In the blessings of teachers, classmates, alumni, seniors, new students embarked on a new journey to chase their dreams.
XPU leaders Ma Wanqing, Gao Ling, Zhao Xiaofeng, Zhu Junqiang, Jing Hao, Zhu Yongmin, Wang Jinfu, Yin Yongjian, Dai Hong, Tian Jingpeng, teacher representatives Huang Xiang, Xu Jun, Su Xiaolei, Liu Chengkun, Lian Ling, Wang Lijuan, alumni representative Huang Kunyu, Deans of each School, Secretary of the Party Committee(Party General Branch), heads of different departments and new students attended the ceremony.
Yao Mu, a renowned expert in textile materials, XPU Honorary President and Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, expressed his greetings to all the new students. He hopes that students could cherish time , study hard and realize their potentials.
More than 5,000 new students wore badge of XPU on their chests to mark themselves as members of XPU.
XPU President Gao Ling delivered a welcome speech titled “Meeting Challenges, Setting Clear Goals, Practicing Courageously and Forging Ahead”, which provided a wonderful first lesson for new students. On behalf of all the staff and teachers from XPU, he expressed warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to all the new students from all over the country as well as conveyed his sincere respect and gratitude to the teachers and parents who have worked hard to cultivate students.
He introduced XPU history, strength and culture to new students. While presenting the distinctive characteristics of XPU, he especially mentioned the application fields and trends of modern “new textile”. He said that XPU’s subject development direction and trends are in line with the economic and social development needs of the whole country, as well as the development direction of the whole knowledge system structure. He hopes that students could learn more things that reflects the latest developments of the times and meets the needs of subject development in the new learning stage, so as to lay a good foundation for their life development.
Under the background of the major strategic victory in the national battle of epidemic prevention and control, the epidemic is still raging around the world, and the world pattern is changing towards multipolarity. Gao Ling wishes that everyone would think more about their life position and society position. He led everyone to make initial thoughts and discussions on the three questions of “how to understand the meaning of university? what is the meaning of going to university? and how to spend your time in university?”, and made them the first assignment for new students. He expects that students would continue to think these questions deeply in the future university life and deepen understanding with practical action. He said there are still nearly 30 years to go before the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and the next 30 years will be prime time for everyone to study and start their own businesses. Not only would everyone witness the realization of the two centenary goals, but also participate in the whole process as fresh and main forces. This is a kind of honor and pride, but also a responsibility. He also hopes that students would utilize university life as their main battlefield to sharpen themselves, develop their excellent skills, and become an ideal and responsible Chinese new youth and a pioneer in the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, making the university the cornerstone of their wonderful life.
