On October 10th, the taekwondo competition of the 11th National Paralympic Games and the 8th National Special Olympics Games kicked off in Lintong Campus.
Taekwondo officially debuted at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Same as other martial arts, Paralympic Taekwondo has two forms-Kyorugi and Poomsae. The former is for athletes with upper limb disabilities, while the latter is for those with neurological disorders.
In the morning, Liu Tingting from Chongqing competed with Wu Ruihong from Fujian in the women’s K42 49kg final. In the first round, the two were tied 2-2. In the second round, Liu Tingting scored 6 points in a row, thus successfully reversed the situation. In the final round, Liu Tingting won the first gold medal of the tournament with a brilliant roundabout kick.
Liu Tingting, a junior from Chongqing, lost her right arm at nine due to accidentally touching a high-voltage cable. She was depressed at first, but with the help of her family and friends, she gradually came out of the gloom and learned to use her left hand. She enjoyed sports and learned taekwondo last year. With years of hard work, she has always kept in good condition and overcome all kinds of difficulties. She said, “I am healthier and more energetic by sports, and become more positive and calmer. In the future, I will continue my studies and finish my college courses.”
Her coach Zhang Yinyu commented, “Liu Tingting is a tough lady, which is an unanticipated surprise.”
In addition, Huang Xiaohui from Shaanxi won the bronze medal of women’s K42 49kg class. She said, “I hope to make further efforts to drive more people to participate in sports in the future and realize the value of my life.”
In the morning, Liu Tingting from Chongqing and Shao Qian from Shandong won the gold of women’s K42 49kg and K42 58kg class respectively. Jiao Long from Ningxia, Chen Shitong from Beijing and Wei Mingqian from Hunan won the gold of men’s K41 75kg, K42 75kg and K42 75kg class respectively.
In the afternoon, the gold medal of men’s and women’s individual poomsae went to Zhang Yongdai from Shandong and Li Ningshuang from Zhejiang respectively. Liu Junna, Zheng Jiajun from Shandong took the gold of men’s and women’s mixed doubles poomsae. Zheng Jiajun, Zhu Yanlin, Lu Yuhao from Shandong snatched the gold of men’s team poomsae. Yu Qian, Li Xinyi and Liu Junna from Shandong grabbed the gold of women’s team poomsae.
