On the morning of September 10, 2020, the 2019 Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Awards Conference was held at the Beijing Convention Center. The project "Basic theories, key technologies and industrial applications for reducing air conditioning energy consumption in large buildings" declared by the XPU evaporative cooling team, lead by Professor Huang Xiang of the School of Urban Planning and Municipal Engineering, the Tsinghua University team, lead by Professor Li Xianting of the School of Architecture and other teams jointly won the first prize of Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award. Professor Huang Xiang, Professor Qiang Tianwei, and Dr. Sun Tiezhu from the School of Urban Planning and Municipal Engineering of XPU received this honor.

     Professor Huang Xiang’s evaporative cooling team has focused on evaporative cooling ventilation and air conditioning technology for more than 20 years, and has achieved a series of theoretical and application results. Professor Huang Xiang has won the first prize of Shaanxi Province Science and Technology, the first prize of Science and Technology Invention of China Refrigeration Society, and Beijing Science and Technology Progress. He presided the "13th Five-Year" national key research and development projects and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
