On November 20th, the “Technology, Art and Archaeology” high-level forum was successfully held in the Xi Fang Conference Hall, Jinhua Campus. It was jointly planned and prepared by the Science and Technology Department , School of Apparel and Art Design, the Philosophy and Social Science Key Research Base of Shaanxi (Universities)—The Belt and Road Research Centre for Costume Culture, and the Art and Archaeology Research Center of Xi'an Polytechnic University.
The forum invited well-known archaeologist Li Boqian, a Professor in the School of Archaeology and Museology of Peking University, Professor Liu Xujie, a famed architect in the Institute of Ancient Architecture of Southeast University, the researcher of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Institute of Archaeology, famous textile archaeologist Ms. Wang Yarong, as well as other twenty experts from the archaeology, cultural relics and muse-ology and ancient architecture. Zhu Xiaodong, director of the Science and Technology Division of the Education Department of Shaanxi Province, Zhai Jinrong, minister of Science Popularization Department of the Shaanxi Provincial Federation of Social Sciences, and Zhou Xiaoxia, deputy minister of the Science Popularization Department of the Shaanxi Provincial Federation of Social Sciences, attended the forum. XPU president Gao Ling, vice president Dai Hong, heads of functional departments such as the Science and Technology Department, School of Apparel and Art Design, School of New Media Arts, School of Urban Planning and Municipal Engineering participated. President Gao Ling made the opening speech for this forum. He said that holding such a grand gathering of archeology, art and engineering disciplines at XPU is to actively study and implement the instructions of the Party Central Committee. Combining archaeological science with science and engineering education is a good opportunity to promote XPU ’s work. XPU is a comprehensive engineering university featuring textiles and apparel. It has a special position in the Chinese universities, due to the continuous hard work of teachers and students. Today, if we want to make further progress, we must introduce fresh blood and advanced concepts to become a new and typical engineering university with inter-discipline development.
At the same time, President Gao Ling also pointed out that in the development of various disciplines, archaeology is an extremely worthy of attention. It has provided us with physical evidence of every step in the development of mankind for thousands of years, and it is a confirmation of the progress of science and technology in every item. The same applies to textiles, apparel technology and art.
Xi'an is an important city of Chinese archaeology and the great capital of China in its strongest period. President Gao Ling said, “The location of XPU in Xi’an is not only a historical opportunity, but also a kind of fortune. Based on this land, we must carry forward the glorious tradition of agriculture, mulberry, silk and hemp, represented by the Neolithic age, and the tradition of communication represented by the opening of the Silk Road. This is not an empty talk. We do come up with ideas, products, technologies, and talents. We believe that our future talents in XPU will have a distinctive archaeological mark. "

After that, School of Apparel and Art Design , Anyang Museum, Qin Brick and Han Tile Museum, and Xi'an Qujiang Silk Road Heritage Museum jointly established the talent training base for scientific research.

This forum is an academic attempt across disciplines. It is the first comprehensive university in China focuses on the combination of technology, art and archaeology. It’s also the new high-level initiatives to promote tradition, modern technology and art advancement. The forum discussed in depth the theoretical results between technology and art, culture and communication, archaeology and reality from the three fields of "textile and apparel", "engineering and materials", and "architecture and stone carving". It makes the science and art circles to re-examine traditions through understanding archaeology, and enables archaeology to serve the development of technology and art, ensuring the academic research of the "Belt and Road" to a new level.
After the start of this forum, Professor Li Boqian of Peking University, Professor Yuan Jing of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Zhou Xiaolu of the School of History of Nanjing University, Professor Zhu Zijin of the National School of Renmin University of China, Professor Liu Xujie of the School of Architecture of Southeast University made spectacular speeches, pushing the first half of the forum to Climax, on the topics of the "origin of civilization", "technology and archaeology", "Art and Archaeology", "Colors of Han Dynasty Textiles Unearthed in Hexi", and "Extraordinary Achievements of Hard Struggle—Admiring the Contributions of the Forefathers of the Chinese Society of Architecture"
This forum is the beginning of a series of academic activities between the Art and Archaeology Research Center of XPU and the Belt and Road Research Centre for Costume Culture and will last for two days.
It is hoped that through this academic activity, it will solidify the form of an annual meeting and build a long-term, diversified and open academic exchange platform for the academic community. With improvement, it will combine various content forms such as special seminars, academic lectures, and results compilations to form the academic brand annual meeting of XPU 's art discipline, making contributions to promote the creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese excellent traditional culture, and building a strong nation of socialist culture.
A brief Introduction to the Philosophy and Social Science Key Research Base of Shaanxi (Universities)—The Belt and Road Research Centre for Costume Culture
The Belt and Road Research Centre for Costume Culture is established by the Education Department of Shaanxi Province and supported by XPU.
The research field involves design, drama and film studies, ethnology and culturology, history, archaeology and other disciplines. It focuses on basic theoretical research, which is supplemented by applied basic research and closely integrates the national Belt and Road development strategy and emphasizes tradition. The general idea of national cultural construction is to condense XPU’s professional characteristics and research advantages, creating a unique "Belt and Road" clothing culture research atmosphere, accumulating influential academic achievements, forming an academic research brand, and ultimately reaching the goal of improving discipline construction and disseminating cultural research.
The main research directions of the center cover the following aspects:
1. Theoretical Research on One Belt One Road Clothing. Including: (1)Research on the history of clothing along the Belt and Road (2) research on drama, film, song and dance clothing (3) Comparative Research on Costume Culture of Countries Along the Belt and Road ;
2. Research on the Application of Costume Culture along the Belt and Road. Including: (1) Research on the application of traditional clothing elements along the Belt and Road in modern clothing design; (2) Research on the development of cultural and creative products based on the Belt and Road Initiative;
3. A Study on the Foreign Dissemination of Chinese Clothing Culture and the Influence of the Chinese Image in the World
The members of the center team have been extensively committed to the research and communication of costume culture. The research subjects include costume culture, costume design, art archeology, drama and film, communication, ethnology, etc. In recent years, members of this research center have been approved for 8 national social science fund projects and 25 provincial and ministerial social science fund projects. They have published 18 monographs, such as Research on Chinese Costume Aesthetics, Research on Ethnic Costume Culture along the Silk Road (Tang Dynasty), Shaanxi Costume Culture, Research on Costume Culture of Tang Dynasty, Study on Classification of Hair Accessories in Sui and Tang Dynasties, Tang Dynasty Clothing Research, The theory of Que in Qin and Han Dynasty. They have completed a number of national and provincial social science projects, laying a solid foundation for the center's research direction and content, including Research on the Design Art of Hui Magpie Crown Ornaments in the Tang Dynasty, Research on the Costumes of the Northern Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty Unearthed from Qinghai Section of the Silk Road, The Influence of the Traditional Culture of Northern Peoples on the Official Clothes of the Tang Dynasty and Its Historical Significance, The Relationship between Tibet and Central Plains in Cultural Relics "Data Collection and Research, Innovative Research on the Design of Shaanxi Tourism Cultural Commodities in the Silk Road Economic Belt, Classified Database and Application Research on Hair Accessories in the Sui and Tang Dynasties, Collation and Research on the Costumes of Various Ethnic Groups along the Northern Silk Road in the Tang Dynasty.
